Children With Autism Waiver
Families of children who have a medical diagnosis of Autism who are under the age of six (6) are eligible to apply for the Children with Autism (CWA) waiver. CWA waives parent income to enable the enrolled child to access Medicaid State Plan/EPSDT (public insurance). The only waiver service provided is intensive behavioral services to families. Waiver services and eligibility ends the day prior to a child’s 6th birthday.
An Envision Case Manager will complete a Long Term Care Level of Need assessment with the family and, if qualified according to the assessment, will notify the state Medicaid office to place the child on the statewide waiting list for CWA. Once a resource becomes available, the Case Manager repeats the assessment to assure continued eligibility. Once Medicaid financial eligibility is established, the Case Manager completes an Individual Plan to identify the needs for services and to establish what services will be provided, and assists the family to connect with Behavioral Services providers specializing in pediatric autism.
