Consumer Rights

People who receive services through Envision have the same legal rights and responsibilities guaranteed to all individuals under the federal and state constitutions and federal and state laws, unless rights have been modified through state or federal law.

Envision and our contracted, program-approved provider agencies, must assure that persons receiving services are allowed to exercise their rights. We must make sure that people receive written copies of their rights to read and to have them explained, including an explanation of how to exercise their rights in a manner they can easily understand. A person receiving services, their family members, guardian or authorized representatives cannot be punished for standing up for their rights. Envision must not hold it against the person for doing so.

The rights of a person receiving services may be suspended only to protect the person from putting themselves, others or property in danger. A suspension of rights must be the least restriction possible and must follow Division for Developmental Disabilities Rules and Regulations or court order.
